Joining Cancer Survivor Groups: A Path to Emotional Recovery
From the discovery of cancer cells to the recovery process, the experience is never easy for women. Discovering cancer cells in the breasts can be devastating enough and it can put the patient and her family and friends into much stress and emotional pain. The treatment can be as equally painful, stressful and frightening. Thus, even when given the good news that they will be able to recuperate from cancer, some patients have some difficulties recovering from the emotional stress and pain brought by cancer.
There are some groups for cancer survivors who can help women recovering from breast cancer in gaining back their self-confidence and other positive outlook in life. Joining a group of cancer survivors can be helpful to the patient if the group is properly led. Most cancer survivors feel vulnerable, sad, and stressed that it can be helpful to be able to share their fears and concerns with those who understand and know what it is like to face a terrible and usually fatal illness.
The best cancer survivor groups are led and run by professional and licensed therapists who have enough experience in group counseling. These professionals can be trusted and they are more helpful than those individuals who decided to form a breast cancer survivor group just because they have survived their own cancer. It takes more than just personal experience with cancer to be able to successfully counsel other cancer survivors.
