Healing Broken Hearts within a Marriage; a Marriage Counselor’s Task
When the normal functioning of the married couple gets disturbed, in a way that it is difficult for them to solve the issue among themselves, the need for counseling arises. Marriage Counceling involves a licensed professional who will act as the counselor during the sessions.
Many marriages around the world are facing great challenges and with the rising number of divorce cases in the Western nations especially in the United States, many organizations and governments are becoming involved in the field of marriage counseling. Knowing how sensitive marriage issues can be, the states require individuals who are interested in becoming marriage therapists or counselors to take a licensure exam, aside from obtaining a master’s or bachelor’s degree. In some places, a graduate degree in psychology or social work following the bachelor’s degree is also required. After passing the licensure exam and getting his license, the professional will then be allowed to legally practice counseling.
More than a business or a profession, marriage counselors need to think of their practice as a way of helping their clients regain their trust, love and respect for their spouse. Hence, marriage counselors are often called marriage therapist as they seem to help heal broken hearts caused by a marriage conflict that has gone out of hand.
